It was a special week for the children of Kibeo. In honor of Grandpa and Grandma Day on June 4, Kibeo organized the 'Grandpa and Grandma's week'. That means it was time to welcome grandparents to daycare! Throughout the week they were allowed to play along, participate in the group discussion, read aloud and much more. They saw with their own eyes how their grandchild's development is stimulated and how much fun their grandchild experiences.
Activities with grandfathers and grandmothers that also stimulate language development
Grandfathers and grandmothers, great-grandparents and bonus grandparents all got a glimpse into the daily life of their grandchild at childcare. Proud as peacocks, they watched their grandchild learn, play and develop together with friends. What made it even more fun is that they were also allowed to participate in the activities themselves. There were grandfathers and grandmothers who read to the children or sang songs with the children. The children experienced this as a nice moment of togetherness and learned a lot of language at the same time.
At the BSO, for example, conversations were also encouraged that week in which the children asked their own and other grandparents questions. About their lives, (former) jobs, youth and so on. In this way the children got to know their grandparents better. Soms they discovered that their grandfathers and grandmothers used to have the same interests as themselves. In addition, these conversations further stimulated the children's speech and language development.
Grandfathers and grandmothers play an important role in the pedagogical foundation of children
Grandfathers and grandmothers often have an important role in the children's lives. For a child's development, it is important to involve not only parents, but also grandparents in childcare. Just like parental involvement, contact with grandparents also stimulates the connection with home. At the same time, Kibeo creates a safe environment for the children at its shelter, so that they can develop optimally. A good pedagogical basis stimulates the development of children and provides parents with support in raising children.
