From printing portraits to visiting museums and discovering the artist in yourself. From 19 to 30 March 2025, the Zeeland BSOs of Kibeo transformed into art studios. This year, the Children's Art Week focused on the theme 'Everything on it, the person in art'. The children went on a creative journey of discovery where they discovered more than just how to make art yourself. While being creative, they also learned how to think differently and how to express their thoughts and feelings.
A bright yellow sun in the corner and a house on the grass. Do you remember those well-known children's drawings? Maybe your drawing wasn't that beautiful when you were little, but that's not what art is about. Art stimulates the imagination and encourages children to think critically. They also learn to think differently and to look at something in a different way than they are used to. They learn that the world is not black and white, but, just like art, full of color! This is how a child develops empathy and the ability to put themselves in someone else's shoes. A nice skill that will also come in handy later on!
The children are busy with assignments that fit the theme. For example, think of 'How do I move?'. The children take photos while they are exercising and then add all kinds of extras to the printed photos. For example, a new background or movement stripes.
Yet another activity is the sculpture museum. This is a drama activity where the children play statues or guards in a museum. In this way, the children are not only busy making art or looking at it, but they are also art themselves.
