At Kibeo, colleagues continue to develop their skills. For instance, last autumn, a colleague from Kibeo de Kreek took a course to become a reading coordinator through the library at Bergen op Zoom. She wanted to share the knowledge and inspiration she gained there regarding children's language development with parents. Therefore, Kibeo de Kreek, together with Boekhandel Quist and Bibliotheek West-Brabant, organized an inspiring parents' evening about the importance of reading aloud for language development.
Welcome message
On Tuesday, May 26, parents received a warm welcome at the branch. After a word of welcome from Angelique Schaap of Kibeo de Kreek, she gave the floor to Anneleen Huijsmans of Bibliotheek West-Brabant. During a wonderful presentation, Anneleen spoke about the importance of reading aloud and the positive influence this has on children's language development. During a reading session, children learn new words and expand their vocabulary, but also develop a good sense of language. For example, because they hear how a sentence is constructed while being read to.
Inspiring stalls about stimulating language development
After a short break, parents could walk past various stalls to gather even more inspiration. For example, there was a stall left over. Rich in Language, our own language program, specifically for childcare. With this program, we stimulate children's language development in a playful and conscious way.
Parents could also discover more about Uk & Puk, the VE method with which we work within Kibeo. With Uk & Puk, every child is given the opportunity to develop optimally through play and in a safe environment. In addition, was the Location Parents' Council (LOR) present to explain their role at the branch. They actively participate in discussions and contribute ideas on topics related to childcare at the branch and assist in organizing special events.
Bookstore Quist provided a beautiful book stall where parents could browse and buy books.
Interactive reading aloud is good for language development
A book by The Very Hungry Caterpillar was also read aloud. This demonstrated in a fun and practical way how to read interactively and actively involve children in a story.
