Kibeo and municipality Drimmelen hand out educational summer bags.

For a group of young children in the municipality of Drimmelen, the summer holidays are off to an extra fun start. On the last day before the holidays, they receive a well-stocked bag to take home at Kibeo, full of materials to continue engaging with language through play during the holidays. The municipality of Drimmelen has made funding available for this from the VVE resources.

Playing, discovering and telling

The bag contains a memory game, an insect jar, the Summer Search Book, the book Beestenboel Bos, and story stones. With these, children can look, name, tell stories, read aloud, and discover new words together with their parents. The bags are distributed to children who could benefit from extra support in their development, for example in the area of language. They have a VVE indication for this.

“Children with a VVE indication can use a helping hand, for example with their language development. That is why we have made a summer bag available for all these children and VVE locations in the municipality of Drimmelen. This allows children to continue playing, exploring, and learning new words together with their parents during the holidays. We are proud that we can make this possible thanks to the excellent collaboration between the municipality and the childcare organizations,” says Linda Wesselink, VVE Coordinator at municipality Drimmelen.

Story stones invite children to fantasize and tell stories.

The story stones are a smaller version of the large story stones developed by Kibeo and are part of Taalrijk: Kibeo Child Development's own language program. These are large dice with recognizable images that invite children to fantasize, tell stories, invent tales, and engage in conversation with one another. In this way, children's language development is stimulated through play. With the small version, children can continue this experience at home.

Language plays an important role in the overall development of young children, as it forms the basis for lifelong learning. By making language a natural part of play, interaction, and collaboration with parents, space is created for every child to develop at their own pace. In this way, every child receives the equal opportunities they deserve.
