At Kibeo we read your child every day, even for the little ones. Because reading is not only cozy and cozy, but also very good for the development of your child!

Why we read to your child

  • Reading stimulates the imagination and makes your child curious.
  • Reading provides pleasure, rest and relaxation.
  • Your child learns new words, understands words more easily and improves language sense and language skills. This increases the chance of better learning performance at school.
  • Children who are regularly read to from an early age learn to read independently more quickly and have less difficulty with spelling and reading comprehension.
  • Stories can help you talk about emotions like happiness, fear and sadness.

Collaborate with the library

Reading aloud is extremely important to us at Kibeo. That's why we work with libraries. The place where everyone can come into contact with books in an accessible way. How we work together differs per library.

For example, branches participate in Boekstart, where the branch has its own reading coordinator. Branches can also nominate parents and their children for the Voorleesexpress. In addition, various libraries organize activities throughout the year in collaboration with Kibeo. The location manager will inform you when an activity is organized.

And did you know that all branches have their own library card? This is how we keep our range of books up to date and varied!

Book start in childcare

You may already be familiar with the term 'bookstart'. Boekstart is a national program of the library, which allows children from 0 to 4 years old and their parents to enjoy books. All parents receive a book start voucher when their child is about 3 months old. With this voucher they can pick up a free book starter case at a library nearby.

Reading coordinators

In addition to the regular Boekstart program, there is also Boekstart in childcare. Part of this program are the reading coordinators at each location. A reading coordinator is a pedagogical employee who has been trained by the library. The reading coordinator writes a reading plan for the location. The reading plan states which goals are being worked on with regard to reading. The goals are aimed at offerings, activities, training and collection.

Interactive reading training

In addition, the employees receive training in interactive reading. Employees gain insight into how reading develops in 0-4 year olds, learn to be alert to the initiatives children take in dealing with books and know how to respond to this.

In addition to the training courses for employees, the library also supports the setting up of an inspiring reading corner and the reading coordinator can always make use of the expertise of the reading consultant.

Our pedagogical staff have followed the training to become reading coordinators in the following municipalities: Goes, Schouwen-Duiveland, Kapelle, Borsele, Reimerswaal, Noord-Beveland and Moerdijk. Wondering if there is also a reading coordinator at your child's location? Ask the pedagogical staff at your location!

ReadExpress

The VoorleesExpress is a national reading and language stimulation project. The VoorleesExpress ensures that children aged 2 to 8 with a language deficiency receive extra attention. A volunteer from the library visits the family for 1 hour a week for 20 weeks. During this visit they read aloud, play language games and work with the parents on language and reading pleasure.

Registration for the project goes through the childcare. Our pedagogical staff identify which families are eligible for the project and discuss this with parents. Are parents open to this? Then the pedagogical staff member will register together with the parent.

Libraries are free to choose whether to participate in this national project. The VoorleesExpress is used in the municipalities of Drimmelen, Goes, Schouwen-Duiveland, Ouddorp, Stellendam, Roosendaal, Steenbergen, Bergen op Zoom and Capelle aan den IJssel.
