Last week, the children at Kibeo celebrated National Sports Week! Sports and games are on the daily schedule at Kibeo, but during this special week, extra attention was paid to them. Why? Because sports are fun, healthy and incredibly good for development. Sports stimulate both motor and social-emotional development.
The activities are tailored to the age and development stage of children
At Kibeo, movement is a fixed part of the daily activities. Every day, the pedagogical professionals ensure that the children are actively involved in sports and games. As always at Kibeo, the activities during the National Sports Week were tailored to the age and developmental stage of the children. For example, there were also sports and games activities for the very youngest. For example, think of 'Watch and grab', where the babies see their favorite toys move and try to grab them. This teaches them to move their arms towards something and to grab things.
For children aged 1-2 years, there were activities such as hide-and-seek games, rolling a ball or following a crawling course. These games stimulate their motor development, such as hand-eye coordination. The slightly older children did similar or different activities, such as a circuit track, moving to music and circle tag.
Sports and games are good for motor and social-emotional development
In addition to stimulating motor development, sports activities also promote the social-emotional growth of children. Did you know that children make new friends more easily during sports and games? They learn to work together, listen to each other and develop social skills such as dealing with winning or losing a game. In addition, children's self-reliance is encouraged during sports activities. This ensures that children gain more self-confidence and a higher sense of self-esteem.
At Kibeo they look back on a successful National Sports Week, full of sporting activities and fun!
