Support for toddlers and school children

The National Education Program (NP Education) was created by the government. A program with which children, who need it, receive extra support in their development. Within Kibeo, extensive research has recently been done into methods with which toddlers and schoolchildren can receive full support in their personal development and educational education. Well-being plays a major role in this. If children feel good about themselves and feel safe, this has a positive influence on their development. Thanks to the subsidy from the municipality from the NP Education, Kibeo has been offering temporary extra guidance since October 1 for both toddlers and schoolchildren from the age of 4.

Extra pedagogical assistant at certain toddler groups
On October 1, a pilot was started in toddler groups where many children who need extra guidance play along. These are, for example, children with a language delay or children who display challenging behaviour. An extra pedagogical employee can be deployed for these toddler groups for 3 half-days per week. This means there is more room for appropriate guidance for the toddlers who need it. This pilot will run throughout the school year.

After-school offer for children from 4 years
A temporary extra program will also start after the autumn break for children of primary school age who, based on a pedagogical request for help, benefit from professional guidance after school. For example, for children who can use support in making friendships, building self-confidence or how to learn to play together. After the autumn break, these children may temporarily play 2 afternoons a week after school at Kibeo's BSO for a period of 6 or 12 weeks. The branch manager and internal supervisor of Kibeo, together with the school director and the care coordinator of the primary school in question, map out which children may be eligible for this. The children are offered a valuable afternoon activity at the BSO, with a lot of attention from the pedagogical staff. The children play outside, get healthy snacks and thanks to challenging activities they can discover their talents and work on their development.

Offer for the children who need it
“We are very pleased that we can offer these two routes in Barendrecht in collaboration with the municipality,” says Marleen Noordijk, regional director of South Holland at Kibeo. “We support precisely the children who need it most in their development and well-being. And because after-school care is about places within the available capacity of the group, it is not at the expense of places for children who are on the registration list.”

Municipalities and the National Education Programme
Municipalities receive a budget from the NP Education from the government for their role in preschool education, primary and secondary education up to and including the 2024-2025 school year. With the aim of making up for educational arrears and delays that children have suffered during corona.

Kibeo is one of the partners of the municipality of Barendrecht, with whom a joint action plan has been drawn up for spending the budget from NP Education. Part of the one-off grant is used for additional Kibeo offerings for toddlers and schoolchildren in Barendrecht.
